Abstract: John Cage (1912-1992) is an American avant-garde composer whose original compositions and unorthodox ideas profoundly influence 20th-century music. He is the most renowned Western composer who has drawn on the I Ching as a major source of inspiration and a new way to compose chance music. His influence spreads outside America worldwide and extends across music and other artistic fields, presenting a classic example of cross-cultural exchanges and communications.
